Cedar Shadow-Box Fence Under an Oak Tree in Pearland, TX

A shadow-box cedar fence installed under a mature oak in Pearland — good-neighbor style with pickets alternating on both sides of the rail.
Project Overview
This cedar fence project was completed by the Forged Fence & Deck crew in Pearland, Texas during May 2026. Every job we take on in the Greater Houston Metro is planned around Gulf Coast conditions — clay soil movement, humidity, coastal wind loads, and heavy seasonal rain — so the finished product holds up long after installation day.
This Pearland yard has a beautiful mature oak, and the homeowner wanted a fence that looked identical from both sides. We built a shadow-box (good-neighbor) cedar fence: pickets alternate on each side of the 2x4 rail so both neighbors see the finished picket face.
Highlights:
- Shadow-box (good-neighbor) picket layout — finished on both sides
- Cedar picket with pressure-treated frame
- Careful routing around the oak's root system
- Steel posts set in concrete for a straight, level line
Shadow-box is popular in Pearland and the Silverlake / Shadow Creek areas where HOAs sometimes require a finished-face-out design. We'll walk your yard and lay it out with respect for existing trees.
Why Cedar Fence Matters in Pearland
Built for Gulf Coast Weather
Pearland sees heavy rain, hurricane-force wind events, and expansive clay soils. Every post on this project was set in concrete to keep the structure plumb through wet/dry cycles.
Local Materials & Methods
We spec materials that perform in Pearland — pressure-treated lumber, galvanized hardware, cedar rated for humidity, and powder-coated steel where corrosion is a factor.
